Petra's Journey: From Pandemic Pause to New Zealand Triumph

After two long years of waiting, several of my clients found themselves in a unique situation—finally, the moment they had been eagerly awaiting arrived, and they wasted no time in rekindling their job search journey. The time had come to rebuild their career aspirations from the ground up, and together, we embarked on this exhilarating challenge.

Starting from Scratch: A Fresh Beginning

The first order of business was revisiting the basics. Two years had passed since their initial job search attempts, and it was imperative that we started afresh. We rolled up our sleeves and got to work:

1. CV and Cover Letter Makeover: We meticulously updated and rewrote their CVs and Cover Letters, ensuring they were tailored to showcase their skills and experiences effectively.
2. LinkedIn Profile Enhancement: With the job market evolving, we updated and boosted their LinkedIn profiles, expanding their networks to connect with potential employers.
3. Building a Prospect List: We diligently collected a list of prospective companies to target with their applications, casting a wide net for opportunities.
4. Launching the Job Search: Armed with a proven job search method, they embarked on a new journey, exploring openings and possibilities.
5. Interview Preparation: We honed their interview skills, ensuring they were well-prepared to make a lasting impression.

In the initial stages, we encountered a few setbacks in the form of rejections. However, patience and persistence paid off. Within just two weeks, companies began to recognize the potential of hiring candidates from overseas. A series of interviews followed, and in the span of two months, our clients received the news they had been eagerly waiting for—a written job offer.

Now, as Petra and her partner wrap up the necessary paperwork, pack their bags, and organize their lives, they are on the brink of a new chapter—relocating from Hungary to their desired destination and embarking on a fresh start.

In July 2020, we decided to move to New Zealand in the midst of the pandemic. While gathering information, we found Suzanne. We knew in advance that New Zealand is an entirely different world, so we need someone who knows the kiwi way of thinking and has experience of Europe.

She has been honest from our first conversation, telling us about the difficulties, and the opportunities and that no one can see the end of the closure due to the coronavirus, so we should be patient. She suggested that until we can move, we should raise as much seed money as possible. For 1.5 years, she contacted us regularly to see how we were doing, how we were getting on, and whether our goals had changed.

At the beginning of 2022, as soon as the news of the border opening came, Suzanne contacted us and told us that if we wanted to move to New Zealand, we should speak with our immigration adviser and start looking for a job. We started working together. We discussed which of us had the best chance of finding a job and focused on that. She helped us polish our CVs, both tailored to the sector in content and presentation.

She helped us write the perfect cover letter and created spreadsheets for job searches. She was very strategic in guiding me through job applications and LinkedIn cold calls. The latter proved to be successful. So interview dates were arranged in a short time. Suzanne prepared me for interviews with text materials and verbally. The search was successful because I got a great job offer at a great company.

I'll never forget that I sent her the news as soon as I got the job offer because I couldn't believe it. She called me online immediately, was happy for us and was already looking at the next step. 

We can both honestly say that without Suzanne, it wouldn't have worked. She is outstanding in her profession, highly motivated and passionate. She understands people and problems, she looks for solutions, and she's a great person at the same time. 

Besides finding a job, whatever we ask, she always answers as helpful as possible. Our work together is not over yet, because once we are in the country, the other one of us has to find a job. But we think that it will be easy with Suzanne by our side. 

As I envision Petra and her partner diligently packing her suitcase, it instantly transports me back to the year 2017, when my own family and I embarked on our life-changing adventure to New Zealand. At that time, our youngest was merely six months old, and our eldest stood on the brink of her first day of school. Armed with just five suitcases and boundless determination, we set out on this transformative journey, even naming our blog ötbőrönd after those very suitcases that symbolize our incredible odyssey. Looking back, I can confidently say that making that decision was undeniably the best and most rewarding choice of my life.
